Drain flies and bugs
Drain flies do not come from outside. They hatch from the film of organic matter lining the drain, and every dry floor waste is an open door for whatever lives in the sewer.
Drain flies (also called drain moths) lay their eggs in the gelatinous biofilm that coats the inside of sinks, overflows and floor wastes. Spraying the adults changes nothing because the next generation is already in the pipe. Cockroaches and other pests use a different route: a floor drain whose water trap has evaporated is a direct connection between the room and the sewer.
The fix is two-part. Digest the biofilm so there is nothing left to breed in, and seal the drain so nothing can climb up through it. Green Drain is a waterless trap seal that lets water and debris flow down while its silicone skirt closes behind them. It fits in seconds without tools and is WaterMark certified for Australian plumbing.
Three steps
Remove the breeding ground
DrainGuard probiotic foam coats the full pipe and digests the biofilm that drain flies lay their eggs in.
Seal the pathway
Drop a Green Drain into each floor waste. Water passes through; insects, sewer gas and odours cannot come back up.
Keep it that way
A monthly foam treatment and a quick rinse of the Green Drain keep both defences working.

Frequently asked
How do I know which Green Drain size I need?
Lift the grate and measure the inside diameter of the pipe below it. Sizes run from 38 mm (GD1.5) to 120-135 mm (GD5). The hybrid GD3/35 and GD35/4 cover a smaller grate opening over a larger pipe, which is common in Australian bathrooms.
Will a Green Drain stop water draining?
No. The silicone skirt opens under the weight of water and closes when the flow stops. Flow capacity is tested to ASSE 1072 for every size.
Do I still need a water trap?
Yes. Green Drain is a supplementary protection device under WMTS-522, not a replacement for the water seal trap. It protects you when that trap dries out.
Not sure which product you need?
Tell us what is happening with your drains, septic or indoor air and we will point you to the right product, or say if you do not need one.
